In Remembrance of Dr. Peter W. Orobello - August 1, 2015.

PETER W. OROBELLO, 59, Tierra Verde, passed away August 1, 2015 after suffering a heart attack during his weekly 25-mile Saturday morning run. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to St. Petersburg in 1989, to spearhead the Pediatric Otolaryngology Department at All Children's Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Orobello dedicated his life to his family and his patients and was respected by everyone who knew him. He will be loved and remembered forever by his wife of 31 years, Jill Orobello; his children: Katy Orobello, Ryan Orobello Karempelis (Peter), Nicklas Orobello, Tayler Orobello, and Morgan Orobello; and his beloved grandson Peter Liam Karempelis. He was predeceased by his son, Peter John Orobello, and his parents, Peter and Mary Orobello. Peter and Jill married in 1984, while he was completing his residency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio. They then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he completed his fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Their first son, Peter John, was born in March of 1986 and was diagnosed at 12 weeks with an x-linked auto immune disorder and Type 1 diabetes. Young Peter passed away in November of 2000 at age 14. Dr. Orobello was incredibly proud of his wife and children. With a raised eyebrow and a huge smile, he enjoyed talking about their accomplishments. Katy is a bar certified attorney in Florida and New York and is currently working on an additional degree in London. Ryan and her husband, Peter Karempelis, live in Minneapolis where Peter is doing his residency in ENT. They just had a son, Peter Liam, born earlier this summer. Nicklas is a third-year medical student at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Tayler is completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. Morgan is at the University of Georgia where she is pre-med and a goalie on the women's soccer team. Dr. Orobello, was a Pediatric Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon) with Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists in St. Petersburg. He was in private practice in the area for more than 25 years. Over the years, he has helped thousands of kids. Dr. Orobello served as the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, All Children's Hospital/Johns Hopkins Medicine. He was also a Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology and Pediatrics at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. One of Dr. Orobello's specialty areas included cochlear implantation. Over the years, he gave the gift of hearing to hundreds of patients. As one parent shared, "My son heard his first bird chirping because of Dr. Orobello. I will never forget that day." His kindness and generosity went beyond the confines of the practice. He served on the Board of Directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation as well as K-Life Ministries. Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 7 at First United Methodist Church, 212 3rd Street North in St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peter W. Orobello, M.D. Scholarship Fund (benefitting the University of Florida College of Medicine), P.O. Box 76479, St. Petersburg, FL 33734.

Children's Dream Fund Event - July 13, 2015.

The Children's Dream Fund was founded in 1981 with the single purpose of fulfilling dreams for children ages 3-18 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Referrals are received from several hospitals on Florida's west coast. Dreams vary greatly - from trips to Disney World, meetings with celebrities, computers, play sets, cruises and shopping sprees. Every child deserves hope and a dream! The true impact of a child's dream cannot be measured in dollars and cents. Our desire is to grant every eligible child's dream. There are many children in our community with life-threatening illnesses, and the Children's Dream Fund needs your help to reach them.
